Tenzin Lobsang is completely deaf. His father died during the India/Pakistan war in Leh, Ladakh. T. Lobsang is one of four children. His sister, Tsering Palden, was admitted to Tibetan Homes Foundation on the same day as he, June 22, 1987. The two younger children still live at home. Oil painting class gives him the chance to overcome his handicap where he paints with great concentration. His paintings speak volumes. In the painting "Sounds of Silence" T. Lobsang wanted to share with children in Santa Barbara what it is like living in a silent world. During the holy month of May, Saka Dawa, when all the rest of the students had to attend afternoon prayers for 3 hours, T. Lobsang painted with much enthusiasm. T. Lobsang's mother lives in Chakrata, India near Dehra Dun. She is the sole supporter of the family as a carpet weaver in the handicraft center there. ©2002 FOTWA. All rights reserved.
